Zen Space Station
Best experienced in VR, this digital
environment was imagined as a timeless
journey through the subconscious.
Calming and contemplative. On the
guided path towards the cavernous
central structure, you pass through
a series of pods. Video loops play
along their inner surface, engulfing
your field of view. Flowers bloom
repeatedly at high speed, a school
of jellyfish swims past. Life in its
glory. At the center, a long climb up a
lazy spiral ramp brings you to the top
and a magnificent view. A spaceship
waits to take you to your next stop.
I sculpted all the objects, from the
pathways to the pods, using Autodesk
Maya. The textures and surfaces were
stitched together with Adobe Photoshop,
video loops edited in Premiere, though I
admit that was a bit of an overkill,
and all of the elements were brought
together and animated with the Unity
This environment also appeared as
part of the Gamma Burst group show
that took place in December of 2016.
